Salt Lake City, Utah — MountainStar Healthcare president Greg Angle received the 2023 Distinguished Healthcare Executive Award from the Utah Hospital Association. The award honors leaders who have made significant contributions to healthcare in Utah.

“I am humbled and grateful to accept the award on behalf of our entire MountainStar Healthcare team,” Angle said. “This recognition is truly the result of our roughly 9,000 colleagues and providers in Utah and their collective work to deliver on our mission of caring for people and improving lives.”

As president of HCA Healthcare‘s Mountain Division, Angle provides leadership to the eight MountainStar facilities in Utah as well as three sister hospitals in Alaska and Idaho. During his 10-year tenure, the Utah network especially has seen tremendous growth. Since Angle took the helm in late 2013, MountainStar welcomed Cache Valley Hospital as its eighth Utah hospital, added five freestanding emergency centers, acquired and expanded a network of CareNow urgent care clinics, grew its ambulatory surgery and imaging footprints, and more. Last year, MountainStar served over one million patient interactions.

“I’m proud of the ways we’ve been able to bring affordable, high-quality healthcare to more Utahns,” Angle said. “While we’ve historically been known mostly for our eight award-winning hospitals, we now have 80 sites of care from Logan to Payson, and that number keeps growing.”

Six of the eight MountainStar hospitals — and seven of the 11 in Angle’s Mountain Division — were named Top 100 Hospitals in 2023 by Fortune and PINC AI.

Angle’s career in healthcare administration spans 35 years. He has held leadership roles in California, Nevada, Texas and his home state of Arizona, where his journey began with the faith-based Ascension Health system. He has spent the last 25 years with HCA Healthcare, one of the nation’s leading healthcare providers, including prior roles at Los Robles Regional Medical Center, Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center and Medical City Dallas Hospital.

“I’m truly blessed to have worked alongside so many talented individuals,” Angle added. “I’m also thankful to my amazing wife of 40 years and my children for their support and sacrifices, to my parents who instilled in me a desire to make a difference, and above all to God for giving me a passion to improve the lives of others.”
