Hospitals from HCA Healthcare’s Mountain Division achieved various recognitions from Healthgrades related to safety, quality and patient-centered care. The Mountain Division is comprised of care sites in Alaska, Idaho and Utah, and is one of 15 divisions of HCA Healthcare, one of the nation’s leading healthcare providers.
Four of its hospitals received 2026 Patient Safety Excellence Awards, two were recognized with the 2026 Outstanding Patient Experience Award, and 10 received 5-star designations in Healthgrades’ 2026 Specialty Excellence program.
Patient Safety Excellence
Four Mountain Division facilities received the 2026 Patient Safety Excellence Award, which is given to the top 10% of hospitals nationwide for patient safety: Idaho’s West Valley Medical Center (Caldwell) and Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (Idaho Falls) as well as Utah’s St. Mark’s Hospital (Salt Lake City) and Ogden Regional Medical Center (Ogden).
Patient Safety Excellence Awards are based exclusively on patient outcomes. Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted complication and mortality rates from approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to determine this year’s list.
As part of HCA Healthcare, these hospitals benefit from a culture in which patient safety is embedded in everyday care delivery. For more than a decade, the organization has operated a federally listed Patient Safety Organization (PSO) that partners with hospitals to strengthen clinical processes, advance evidence-based safety practices and facilitate enterprise-wide learning. Insights gained from the enterprise’s 47 million annual patient interactions are systematically shared to promote consistency, advance adoption of proven practices and enhance the reliability of care across the organization.
These hospitals are among the 92 HCA Healthcare facilities to receive this recognition.
HCA Healthcare has a long history of advancing patient safety through collaboration with leading public and private institutions. Through research initiatives like REDUCE MRSA, ABATE, Swap Out, CLUSTER and INSPIRE the organization continues to contribute to evidence-based practices that advance infection prevention and strengthen the safety and reliability of care for patients.
Outstanding Patient Experience
West Valley Medical Center and Mountain View Hospital (Payson, Utah) were recognized with Healthgrades’ Outstanding Patient Experience Award. This award recognizes the top 15% of hospitals nationwide for patient experience.
West Valley Medical Center was one of just 80 hospitals to be recognized for both Patient Safety Excellence and Oustanding Patient Experience.
For this annual analysis, Healthgrades evaluated Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) patient survey data across 10 key patient experience measures–ranging from room cleanliness to care explanations–to determine the nation's best hospitals for patient experience. Recipients of the 2026 Outstanding Patient Experience Award earned the highest overall experience scores, reflecting an unwavering commitment to exceptional, individualized care.
