Cortney Parkinson, RN, from Brigham City Community Hospital is our newest colleague spotlight.

Cortney Parkinson has healthcare running through her blood. She has two sisters who are midwives, and she is an RN in Brigham City Community Hospital's Labor & Delivery unit as well as the hospital's childbirth class educator.

"I originally wanted to work in a different department because I wanted to do something different than my sisters. But my first-ever clinical shift was in Labor & Delivery, and I completely loved it and it changed my mind."

Cortney has been with the hospital 3.5 years, and this August she will begin the Nurse Midwifery program at the University of Utah to earn a Doctorate in Nursing Practice degree.

When asked what she loves most about her job, Cortney said, "I love birth. Every birth is a miracle. Even after doing so many, it's amazing. I feel like it's an honor to be in the delivery rooms."

She also enjoys teaching expecting parents in the hospital's free childbirth education class, offered the second Thursday of each month. Parents can learn more about the class and register by visiting the MountainStar Health calendar and events.

Besides helping bring other babies into the world, Cortney has four children of her own and loves to vacation — especially if it involves water. And something interesting about Cortney? She has a mini farm including a goat with its very own Instagram account.
