Emergency care

Our ER includes a multispecialty team of doctors, surgeons, anesthesiologists and nurses committed to providing high quality emergency care when you need it most. Our team collaborates with local emergency medical services (EMS) providers to streamline care and continuously improve treatment times for heart attack and stroke.

Because of this commitment, our emergency room is proud to be recognized as a treatment center for chest pain, stroke and trauma. We specialize in many types of emergency care, including:

• Heart attacks — Recognized by the American College of Cardiology as an accredited Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI, we are dedicated to the fast diagnosis and treatment of heart attacks. To increase our readiness for those arriving by ambulance, our physicians and cardiologists collaborate with local first responders. Together, they streamline heart attack diagnosis and treatment with special in-transit technology.
• Pediatric emergency care — When your little one needs immediate care, turn to the experts you can trust. We are staffed with emergency care teams that have extra training in pediatrics to care for children of all ages.
• Stroke care — Certified as a Stroke Receiving Facility by the Utah Department of Health, our hospital emergency room is staffed 24/7 with specialists highly trained to evaluate and treat patients with stroke symptoms.
• Trauma care — Our emergency room is designated as a Level III Trauma Center by the Utah Department of Health, offering advanced trauma care for a wide range of moderate and serious trauma injuries. Our trauma center is staffed with a team of board-certified physicians, general surgeons and on-call specialists, including cardiologists, orthopedic surgeons and anesthesiologists.

For patients in need of ongoing monitoring and support for their injury or illness, we provide around-the-clock care in our 8-bed intensive and critical care unit (ICU/CCU). Our ICU combines coronary, medical and surgical care while providing intensive nursing services. Most patients in the ICU/CCU need cardiac-related care, but we also monitor patients recovering after surgery or those who are experiencing:

• Acute respiratory failure
• Complex critically ill conditions
• Diabetic ketoacidosis
• Drug overdose
• Gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding
• Peripheral vascular disease
• Sepsis
• Shock and trauma
• Stroke (cerebrovascular accident)

Our ICU is located at the north end of the third floor of our hospital.
