Comprehensive gynecologic oncology care
Gynecologic oncology refers to cancer of the female reproductive organs. This type of cancer can develop in different places within a woman's pelvis, the area below the stomach and in between the hip bones. It includes:
- Cervical cancer
- Ovarian cancer
- Uterine cancer
- Vaginal cancer
At MountainStar Healthcare, we recognize the importance of treating not only your disease but you as an individual. Our goal is to work together to restore your quality of life through the effective treatment options and cancer support services you need on your journey to recovery.
Gynecologic cancer screening
One of the most effective ways to detect gynecologic cancer at its earliest stages is through preventive gynecologic care. We recommend routine, yearly screenings with your OB/GYN.
During this exam, your doctor will most likely conduct an annual pelvic exam, a Pap smear and a test for human papillomavirus (HPV). These measures help your doctor to both detect cancer and identify signs that you may be at higher risk for gynecologic cancer.
Symptoms of gynecologic cancer
The first step in getting the right treatment is knowing what symptoms are associated with gynecologic cancer.
Some of the symptoms to look for include:
- A heavy feeling in the pelvis and/or pelvic pain
- A vaginal lump
- Gas, nausea, vomiting or loss of appetite
- Lower abdominal pain
- Pain during intercourse
- Trouble urinating
- Unexpected and worsening back pain
- Unusual vaginal bleeding, discharge and/or abnormal periods
- Weight gain or loss
Some of these cancers—such as ovarian, cervical or vaginal cancer—may have mild or no symptoms until the diseases are in an advanced stage.
Diagnosing gynecologic cancer
Depending on the type of cancer you may have, our services include a thorough evaluation, consultation and education on your diagnosis. To give you the most accurate diagnosis, our services include:
