If you have complications during pregnancy, our obstetric emergency department in Salt Lake City is here 24/7 to evaluate and treat pregnancy-related concerns.
As the first hospital in Utah to offer an OB hospitalist program, we always have a physician on-site who specializes in caring for pregnant patients and pregnancy-related emergencies. Our team also includes specially trained nurses and anesthesiologists, with support from neonatology providers and maternal-fetal medicine physicians.

At St. Mark's Hospital, you can plan a birth experience that fits your needs and preferences. We support a wide range of childbirth options, including vaginal birth, vaginal birth after C-section (VBAC), C-section, natural and medicated births, and hypnobirthing.
We also offer a variety of pain management options, including breathing and meditation techniques, hot and cold therapy, whirlpool tubs, IV pain control, and epidural.
Neonatal intensive care (NICU)
If your baby needs neonatal intensive care after birth, we have a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in our Women's Pavilion. Here, our neonatologists and NICU nurses care for ill and premature babies born as early as 24 weeks' gestation.
To reach our NICU, please call (801) 743-6520.
Postpartum care
After delivery, our maternity team provides postpartum care throughout your hospital stay—and even after you take your baby home. Our goal is to support your recovery and help you feel confident caring for your newborn, including breastfeeding if that’s part of your plan.
At St. Mark's Hospital, we encourage skin-to-skin contact between mom and baby immediately after birth. Your room also has plenty of space for your baby to room-in with you. When you need to rest, our nurses can care for your newborn in our well‑baby nursery.
We offer a range of postpartum support services, including:
